Established in 1958, affiliated
to Beijing Sports Administration, and named after its surrounding
area called Shishahai, Beijing Shishahai Sports School is a
state key special middle school, including a junior high school,
covering a total area of 37000 square meters. The school is
entitled as a ¡°Talents Cultivation Base for Olympics¡± by the
State Physical Culture and Sports Commission. It has been given
the honors as the ¡°Advanced School for Amateur Training¡± for
three times on end, and ¡°Beijing Model unit¡± and ¡°Garden Campus¡±
twice.
During the 40 years since established with kind attention from
the Party and the government, through generations of hard work,
the school keeps expanding its scale, innovating in training
methods, and improving its facilities. It boasts a group of
well qualified and sophisticated instructors, among whom there¡¯re
nearly 100 coach teachers and 80% of intermediate or senior
qualification. It¡¯s a boarding school with a combined system
of cultural education and physical training. The normative management
and advanced sports facilities present students with satisfying
conditions for physical training, study and living. The Shishahai
School enjoys 7 modern gymnasiums, providing programs such as
martial art, gymnastics, weightlifting, table tennis, badminton,
taekwondo, volleyball, tennis, boxing and vale tudo. It has
brought up over 1000 qualified athletes for Beijing and the
whole country, world champions like Ma Yanhong (gymnastics),
Zhang Jinjing (gymnastics), Kui Yuanyuan (gymnastics), Wang
Tao (table tennis), Teng Yi (table tennis), Wang Chen (table
tennis), Fan Changmao (table tennis), Dong Jiong (badminton),
Geng Zhenhui (martial art), Di Guangwen (martial art), Liu Qinghua
(martial art), Zuo Juan (martial art), Xie Jun (chess), Wei
Ning (parachute jump), Chen Lin (diving), Liang Xiaoqiao (diving),
Teng Haibin (gymnastics), Luo Wei (taekwondo), Feng Kun (volleyball),
Zhao Qingjian (martial art) all rose from here. The school has
also brought up a large number of social backbones in the sports
circles, who are working hard to make their contribution to
this undertaking, some of whom have become senior leaders or
public figures, for instance, Song Xiaobo, the ex-captain of
the women¡¯s national basketball team; Li Lianjie and Wu Jing,
famous action movie stars; and some coaching abroad. All of
them have contributed their shares to the reform and opening-up
program and the enhancement of our nation¡¯s prestige.
