Mountaineering, as a popular outdoor activity, is known for it closeness to nature, broadening of horizen, cultivating of mind and exercising of body. It is helpful to strengthen one¡¯s body and will and improve the team spirit. To assure the healthy, scientific and safe development of mountaineering, the race of climbing Yinshan has become an annual activity and has been held for 5 times in hopes of strengthening sense of environmental protection, promoting green Olympics and making it popular among the public.

Yinshan, a major historical and cultural site under state protection as well as a scenic resort, is located in Changping District. It is noted for its luxuriant plants, grotesque rocks and fresh air. At an altitude of 726.81 meters above sea level, it is the ideal place for mountaineering.

The race falls into two categories: contest and entertainment. For participants in the contest group, they should cover 2300 meters before reaching the peak at an altitude of 680 meters above the sea level. Games like darts, cockshuttle, balloon blowing and Olympic Knowledge Test are included in the contest. Each group selects 5 as the winners. For participants in the entertainment group, they can enjoy the magnificent view over the mountain while being instructed on mountaineering knowledge.
